I had one fall in the middle of a block of quoted text. Kind of hard to put a separator there.....

I suspect earlier in the post would also work. I think it has something to do with length and by entering a separator it breaks it into two separate shorter stories each
not long enough
for a newsletter ad.

I resorted to using uBlock origin’s element picker, and blocking it that way.

Just had a go and you are correct. It seems to need
to be where the ad would appear. Updated wording in post to reflect.

In case you haven’t seen, Oppositelockator 1.2 removes the “n ewsletter” thing and re-merge the content before and after it (and also removes the n ewsletter modal ) .
B ut it’s indeed working only for peoples who have installed it .

Thanks, I have seen. We had some serious problems some years ago and someone used Tampermonkey like yourself to fix it . I added it but it never quite worked for me then shortly thereafter kinja was properly fixed. I’m just going to wait it out (for now) .

An entirely non-scientific experiment seems to indicate that the newsletter module arbitrarily goes above the final line of text. I’m going to experiment with the Oppositelockator this weekend.

While the “missing” poster name and replies count on the main page is most probably a bug and should be fixed at some point , the newsletter is “a feature” on Jalopnik and the other “official” websites and would only be fixed on blogs where it doesn’t make sense but it might at least stay there for a moment as the modal that is annoying everybody and seems useless is still there after maybe a month of peoples complaining on comments .
